Świnoujście area - where to go

Tourists who are planning a longer stay in Świnoujście or want to get to know the West Pomeranian Voivodeship as best as possible – they can look for interesting attractions also outside this seaside resort. Below we present interesting proposals for spending time in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship:

  • Open-air museum of Slavs and Vikings in Wolin – a place where you can literally move to the Middle Ages. In the Centre of Slavs and Vikings, there are reconstructions of huts and craft buildings from the turn of the IX and XX centuries. Replicas of everyday objects and costumes from that period allow you to get acquainted with history in an interesting way.
  • Międzyzdroje Oceanarium – in the facility located an hour by car from Świnoujście, there is an oceanarium with an area of over 3000 m2. In it, you can get to know the world of underwater flora and fauna with your own eyes.
  • Wolin National Park – located on the largest Polish island, i.e. Wolin. It was created in 1960, and a few years later sea waters were included in it, which makes it the only water park in Poland. The incredible diversity of the landscape attracts thousands of tourists every year. In the Wolin National Park there is also a Museum.

Szczecin

  • Turquoise Lake in Wapnica – in Wapnica, you will meet an extremely charming reservoir of unprecedented watercolour – turquoise, and next to Piaskowa Góra, which provides unique views of the lake. Nearby there is a large bar and playground, as well as a large parking lot.
  • Kamień Pomorski – a small town 50 km away from Świnoujście. Kamień Pomorski hides many attractions, primarily historical – it is one of the oldest cities in Western Pomerania. We also recommend visiting the Kamien Cathedral, the Seaside Park of Railways and Miniatures, or the Manor house von Kleist.
  • Szczecin – when going to Świnoujście to rest for a longer time, we strongly recommend setting a time to visit Szczecin – a city that offers a huge number of attractions, including the National Museum, the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes, the Philharmonic and many others!

Świnoujście - Ahlbeck - Heringsdorf - connected seaside resorts

It is worth recalling that Świnoujście is located on the very border with Germany. Even walking or driving along the promenade, we can "get through" to our western neighbours. Of course, the border is marked, but no one will check our documents, and the only thing after which we will notice that we are in Germany… is a pillar painted in the colours of the German flag.

To Germany, you can get on foot and by bike moving along the beach or promenade and also by car, train or cruise ship departing from Świnoujście. If you are visiting this city – we are happy to recommend you this "trip" because of the interesting attractions on the German side.

Ahlbeck near Świnoujście

Ahlbeck – that is the first town on the German side from the side of Świnujście. It is not for nothing that it is referred to as the "imperial resort". Numerous rulers and elite of the then Old Continent went here for rest. Noteworthy in this place is a wooden pier with a length of 280 metres built in the nineteenth century – it is the oldest structure of this type in Germany. It is worth mentioning that the entrance to the pier is free. In Ahlbeck you can also go to the GDR-era community centre Haus der Erholung, as well as to the 4 km long beach. An obligatory point on the map of attractions in this place is also a small, inconspicuous tent located at the German border, in which there are 110 amazing sand sculptures depicting numerous figures of mythical gods or legendary gods and demons found in numerous cultures of the world.

Heringsdorf

Imperial resorts - Heringsdorf

Heringsdorf – another town worth visiting on the German side is undoubtedly Heringsdorf. Noteworthy in this place is definitely a fairy-tale-like architecture with charming houses. One of them is the Oechsler villa with its amazing connected seaside resorts – inside there are luxury boutiques. The biggest attraction of this city, however, is a huge wooden pier with a length of 508 years, which was erected at the end of the nineteenth century. Near this amazing structure, there is also the Museum of Shells.
